2 out of 5 stars Better product out there   April 27, 2010

I received this as a gift from my mother. This is mostly like purchasing an infomercial. It doesn't deliver that much teaching, although it's not as bad as some people have said. I have purchased a number of singing lesson dvds and my favorite so far is the Singingbelt System. The Singingbelt itself is a brilliant device. It works really well, but Gerson's instruction on the video for singing is outstanding. She's a great coach. The real deal. There's so much information, but she's methodical which I like. Sometimes she talks a little too fast, I had to rewind a couple of times. The instructional vocal warm-up CD it comes with is also great. I put it in my car and use it to and from work. My pitch has greatly improved. I like the whole section about singing over diphthongs as well.

1 out of 5 stars I would look elsewhere   April 26, 2010

It's unfortunate that you can't try before you buy. Actually there are a few that give you a money back guarantee, but I'll get back to that later. I didn't like The UltimateVoice Coach at all. It might be me, but the course didn't give me any enthusiasm at all. I didn't like the excersises or the instruction what little there was, and judging from the other reviews most felt as I did. There's a lot of stuff out there. I don't think that any one course will give you everything you need, but some are still very good. My favorite course is Brett Manning's Singing Success. It's much more costly than most of the others, but what you get is good, and there is additional support online. This is one of those companies that will give you a money back guarantee. If the price makes you balk, you might consider Seth Rigg's Singing For The Stars which is almost identical to Manning's course with out the support, or the DVD Rock Vocals from the Warner Brothers Ultimate Beginner Series (I really liked this one). I know this is supposed to be a review of Voice Coach, but I think that my title for this review says how I felt about this one.

3 out of 5 stars depends where you are as a singer   August 28, 2009

the only reason i bought this DVD was because it featured ron anderson, who i discovered was coaching m shadows, the lead singer of the band Avenged Sevenfold. With such a high regard to this singer, and being the lead singer of a hard rock/heavy metal band myself, I figured it was worth the few bucks to see if it had any insight that i was not yet aware of.

I suppose its very difficult to explain, because I can only presume I have the natural talent to sing and do these things already described in the video without realizing it. for instance, there's talk of 'inflating' the rib cage to support the diaphragm. now, i either do this already and am used to it so i think nothing of it, or i make a conscious effort to inflate my ribs out to the point that its uncomfortable and i cant do anything, so i usually resort to what i was doing before.

my point is, if you are tone deaf, or maybe you have alot of trouble with hitting or maintaining notes, perhaps your throat hurts, or whatever ails you...this could be a decent video to help with some vocal fundamentals. as i said, the only reason i got this DVD was because of ron anderson, but after going through all 3 phases (beginner, intermediate, advanced) it was pretty much just vocal exercises and warm ups. i did get a little use out of one bit of information, as i had heard it before, but this solidified it. i just need to realize that my range is at the lower end and not as high as m shadows'. perhaps something to keep in mind for other discouraged singers, keep in mind your range.

This is the most atrocious thing I have ever heard! They should not have taped the poor woman for the female part of the voice lessons. I'm sorry to be so blunt because I feel bad for the woman. The woman appears to be a darling, but she should not have been recorded on tapes for sale. Her voice sounded very forced and was excruciating to listen to. I could not make it through the session. I have taken private lessons for several years now and this set leaves me speechless as well as in physical pain. Voice lessons should not hurt your throat. The fact that Gary Catona says "Beautiful" each time she sings not only shows his lack of ability to hear, but also makes it look like he will accept anyone and tell them that they sound good for the almighty buck. As difficult as it may be there are some people that you just need to be honest with and let them gently know that they cannot sing. He has to be complete deaf and in that case should not be teaching voice.

Paula and Randy should never attached their name and credibility to this piece of garbage. I think they got "punked" and never saw the video before they allowed their names to be attached to it. Do not purchase this set unless you wish to damage your vocal chords permanently.

I truly wished I scrolled down and noticed the reviews before I wasted my money. On the bright side, I only spent a couple dollars and I will be taking at least one of these awful sets off the market and placing it directly in the trash.

2 out of 5 stars Your better of buying a Berklee book instead of this....   September 5, 2008

I got this CD as a birthday gift after I used a free trail series on Comcast on Demand....What a waste of time. This CD was not designed for the beginner at all. It will only be helpful if you are a exerpienced singer and you know what and what not to do to a T to your voice. You will learn a lot of bad habbits from this CD. I also used the Berklee Elements for Vocal Technique series. This book is a more natural way of singing. The book seems simple but it tells you basically what you will learn when you take singing lessons. My advice to anyone is to buy the Berklee book and take a couple of lessons or atleast talk to someone who is knowlegdable in vocal techniques. I am now a accounting major/ vocal performance minor in college and I must say that this book was of no help to me. Its been three years since I used it and i am still working on dropping some of the bad techiques i learned when using this. The techniques they teach my help but ONLY use it if you are taking vocal lessons and/ or experienced so will know what to do and not to do or you will distroy your voice.
